Here's a few of the things I've been up to in the Real World lately:

New IT position opened up at the library. Full-Time. Wants people experienced in computer-related stuff, customer service, data analyzation, and software specific to libraries. I CAN DO THIS. The application process is a little different though, so I have to figure that out and get it done. But yeah, I can do this. DATA COLLECTION IS WHAT FANGIRLS DO. Weirdly, I feel like I've been prepping for a job like this unintentionally since I first taught myself HTML so I my late '90s fanfics would format correctly on GeoCities. Our skill set comes from everywhere, my dudes. Find a way to capitalize on it.

Also--post up on the library blog about American Gods here! I also sent in a draft for one about Wonder Woman, and I'll let you know what that goes up.

I wrote a print review for Neil Gaiman's Norse Mythology as well, so that should be in the paper and their website sometime next month. Stay tuned!

Over at Glitter n Gore I wrote this introductory post for my Bisexual WereWolf Series. I am working on a more detailed write-up about Lupin specifically, and since I asked this on Twitter as well I'll ask here too: Do you think Lupin is bi? Why or why not? Thanks for the input!

I also got permission to write another thing which I'm too excited about to jinx it but STAY TUNED!!!!

Lastly--Wonder Woman Icons! I got your Wonder Woman Icons right here:

Just a few to start with. There will (might?) be more. Take. Have. Enjoy. I saw the movie for the SECOND time last night by the way, and it's even better the second time around. AND THE BLACK PANTHER TRAILER DROPPED YESTERDAY!!!!! I am delighted about both of these movies and I need y'all to squee with me. (Seriously. Bury me in squee. It's been a hard week otherwise for reasons that elude me.)

Ooh, definitely apply for that job!

I don't know if I really think Remus is bi, but... I don't know. I do ship Remus/Tonks as my "OTP" of a sort (I'm not a shippy enough person to think I really qualify as having an "OTP"), however, I can also see Remus/Sirius. A friend of mine who ships Remus/Sirius has been re-reading the books with me, and she's pointed out some indications towards Remus being gay or bi, if nothing else. (Part of the Shrieking Shack scene in PoA really reads like Remus being outed. I've gotta agree with my friend there.)

Still, I don't know that I think Remus was ever really in love with Sirius. If any of the Marauders were gay or bisexual, I'm more inclined to think Sirius might have had feelings for James. In some ways, his desire for Harry to be like James could be the way a widow mother compares her son to his father. I don't even necessarily see that as being an indication of romantic feelings as much as Sirius being very sad and lost. But I can see the case for Remus/Sirius, as well as the case for James/Sirius.

(Some people posited that Remus was gay, not bi, and never really loved Tonks, hence running away from her. I don't think that's it. However, I just thought of something - should we lean towards the "Remus was in love with Sirius" theory, could he have done something similar, except Sirius didn't know why? Maybe that was even why Sirius suspected Remus of being evil, when Remus was distancing himself.)

Hang on, I'm missing something. What are you referencing here?

Whoops - I think I jumped ahead of my own thoughts here. :) In canon, Remus dumps Tonks (who I really like too, by the way!) twice, thinking she'd be better off without him, blah blah blah. I was positing that Remus could have done this to Sirius during the first war, but if Sirius wasn't even aware of feelings, or maybe even if he was and returned them, he might have taken Remus distancing himself as guilt for something malicious... hence suspecting Remus of being the spy.

Yeah, in PoA, he says he didn't tell Remus they switched Secret Keepers because he suspected him. (Well, sort of, Remus actually says something like "I think that's why" and Sirius confirms it.)

Of course, my interpretation was always that it was less actually thinking "Remus is totes a Death Eater" and more paranoia (coupled with Peter's pushing) making him wonder if it could be, thus not quite trusting him.

Fingers crossed and sending good vibes your way for that IT position. It's amazing when we learn a skill for "fun" and then later realize we can actual translate it into our jobs.

Good luck, too, for that super-secret writing thingy!

Do you think Lupin is bi? Why or why not?

I'm coming from this as someone who a) is terrible at picking up subtle hints of romantic feelings, b) who doesn't consider themselves a "shipper" and therefore doesn't look out these kinds of things and kinda accepts whatever pairings the author creates, and c) favors canon over fanon.

My assumption would be based on what Rowling put into the canon and has said - and since I don't know HP outside of the books and movies, I don't know if Rowling has ever confirmed Lupin's sexuality. IDK. It's tricky because I don't want to diminish whatever vibes or feelings other people have, and maybe they're right about Lupin's sexuality. (The convo above my reply re: the Shrieking Shack is very interesting and something *I* never picked up on.)

Perhaps there's a larger discussion to be had on Lupin and bisexuality, because out of the three the characters in the werewolf post, his bisexuality is the most "up in the air". (I'm assuming about Ruby; I know Ethan Chandler was kinda confirmed as bisexual. . . even though it was only mentioned that one. time.) Like a discussion on how bisexuality is rarely - if ever - talked about in media or how most often it's typed as "gay training wheels" or "a phase" or just completely ignored/never confirmed.

DIANAAAAA! *ahem* I took a couple icons. :) So jealous you went to see it a second time. I did order the original soundtrack (because physical cds > mp3 albums dammit), so now I'm waiting by my mailbox for that to come.

Yeah, I'm getting a lot more mixed responses than I anticipated.

Perhaps because canonically it's neither confirmed nor denied? At least Rowling came out and said "Dumbledore is gay" so there's fewer arguments there. You'd know better than me if she's ever confirmed Lupin's sexuality. (I know she's talked about Lupin and Tonks' relationship before - I think related to the age difference.)

To me, that's a screaming neon signal for metaphorical queerness.

Agreed. And maybe Rowling purposefully used that metaphor but stopped just short at folding Lupin's sexuality into it for whatever reason. She was really good at drawing parallels between wizard prejudices and real-life racism; I don't think she was all that interested - or good - at incorporating different sexual orientations into the mix.

although I'm glad you said that it being just "that one time" because erm, bi folks often have to fight to be taken seriously bc of how much we have or haven't actually done in real life.

I honestly didn't mean to insinuate that you have to bi if you've done x, y, and z with multiple people, so I'm sorry if that's how the comment came across. I was referencing that the Ethan/Dorian hook-up was a one time thing, that never, ever got brought up again, and I saw that be a point of contention with a lot of the fans. (Though Dorian really was a "hit it and quit it" kind of dude, so I understand why, from him, that was the end of it.)

Oooh that sounds like a job you would excel at! Go for it!

We just watched episode 5 of 'American Gods' and WHOA did that deviate from the book! I've been trying to listen to the book when we watch the show and it was right in step with it until the episode that focused on Lara and now this one was...whoa. I'm debating whether I want to finish the book now or wait a bit.

GAH I WANT TO SEE WONDER WOMAN SO BAD! I found a movie gift card we got for Christmas so now I just need to find a day we are both free. Tricky stuff.
